Idolatry and Confusion. Liberating Prayer

A beautifully written, extensive thematic prayer, penned with great flair by Gosia Krata. I am including only a fragment of the text. The full version is available as a recording on CD.
We have forgiven, together with my Soul, that while walking through the world, among visible goods, we did not come to know the Creator, but instead regarded fire, wind, swift air, as well as twinkling stars, rushing water, or the lights of the sky as God.
We beg You, God—Creator of love, beauty, and perfection—let all the effects and consequences pass away of our and the Soul’s bowing low to that which is on earth, in rushing waters, and in the expanses measured out by Your measuring rod.
We have forgiven, together with my Soul, those who, seeking warmth and divine light, took fire and the Sun for God, offering them burnt offerings, taking it for the eye that knows and sees everything, for witnesses and guardians of all our actions.
Together with my Soul, we restore freedom to all those who, having forgotten that they themselves are beings of divine light, gave the Sun all manner of names, telling that God is born and disappears anew each day.
We have forgiven, together with my Soul, that we recognized as God Himself various works of human thought and hands—images of animals or useless stone, the work of an ancient hand—paying homage to what is dead, what cannot help, asking for health from that which has long been dead itself, asking for life from that which is without spirit.
Together with my Soul, we accept that a carved figure, though having wooden hands, will not grant us skill and effectiveness, and that a cast idol will not show us the way, not being able to walk on its bronze legs by itself.
Together with my Soul, we restore freedom to all fools who, on stormy seas, called upon wood more fragile than a ship for help, entrusting their lives to the cheapest wood and wooden carvings.
Together with my Soul, we have forgiven the source of faithlessness—the invention of idols—toward every ruin, toward the effective destruction of mind and spirit.
We beg You, Creator, let all effects pass away of our and my Soul’s fervent flattering of all manner of beings, of bowing and prayers to all invented gods, figures, images, forms, and models.
For many times it happened that from the same clay a potter formed a jug, and then, as long as he had enough material, he formed also a god—painted, adorned to shine and gleam like a luminous figure from the high heavens that descended to Earth to illuminate the road and the emptiness of fools’ minds.
Together with my Soul, we accept that a man who himself holds his own Spirit only for a moment, himself mortal, will always create a dead thing with his unworthy hands.
We have forgiven, together with my Soul, all fools who in their confusion did not want to see that they themselves are better than their “holinesses,” carved idols—for they live, and those never do.
We have forgiven, together with my Soul, all those who, in every confusion, ordered statues to be anointed with oils for sanctification, dressed in ornate garments, fumigated with incense, served exquisite meals, to win the favor of deities for their plans, and to incarnate the spirit of God into a dead sculpture.
We have forgiven, together with my Soul, those who carried into courtyards and into the cosmos a statue, an image, a dead figure, to show their deity to the eyes of the crowd, arranging all manner of ceremonies, leading their gods in pilgrimages and in drunken processions.
We have forgiven, together with my Soul, ourselves and those who tempted God to dwell diminished in a figure or to incarnate in a statue, giving Him food and the most splendid house, slaves and servants for every service, and for pleasures excellent boys and maidens, that they might render fitting services to the god.

We beg You, Creator, decode and erase all effects and consequences of this confusion; strengthen us with Your love and Your divine light, so that we and the Soul may never again seek the path in wandering, in twisting, in the chaos of existence.
We beg You, Creator, show us and my Soul a new, best path to You, and let a lasting time of our faith begin.
We beg You, Creator, free us and my Soul from all intentions and all patterns that are not in accordance with Your plan for us.
We beg You, Creator, remove all resistance of ours and my Soul’s against turning our eyes and our hearts toward Your divine light, toward Your love.
